Looking to work in Japan

69Mike

I'm a Brit living in Italy. I teach English (long time) and I'm looking to work in this field in Japan, in the short-term at least, with a view to working in a different sector longer-term. I speak no Japanese but I have downloaded a couple of books (Minna no nihongo and Genki Integrated Elementary Japanese) and will be looking at some 1-2-1 lessons with a Japanese colleague preceding a departure.

Hello.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm here to learn from members' experiences in general re living and working in Japan, and from experiences in  the EFL teaching field more specifically.

I had to abandon a previous job offer in Vietnam just as C19 struck. Four years on after having visited Japan, I'm in the mood to explore the options there.

I've become stuck in a rut here in Italy and want a change. I've been curious about Japan and interested in certain aspects of Japan's culture for some years , literature, movies, food, alcoholic beverages, and so on.

I can't blame you for wanting to move to Japan. It's a wonderful country full of amazing culture, natural beauty, superb food and fantastic people. Before Covid we'd visit Japan 3 or 4 times a year. I'll be there next month for only a few days as my wife has to go to Seoul in S. Korea and will then pop over to Tokyo, so I wanted to join her there for a few days in Tokyo.

Good luck with your job hunting!
