Can anyone help with my research into Cilacap

pcinczech

Hello All,

I am looking into my family's history in Tilijap during WW2.  My grand parents family on my father's side were sadly kill in a bombing raid in March 1942.  I would like to find out more information (my father was too traumatized to ever talk about it).  I have reached out to a number of places in the area but as I do not speak Indonesian/Malay I have not made any progress.  Ultimately I want to make a heritage trip with my family to pay respects in the location where the tragedy occurred.  Anyone able and willing to help me would be much appreciated.

That is sad to hear. Were your grand parents Javanese? I would guess the best way would be to visit Cilicap itself to do your research and perhaps call in at the Taman Prasasti Museum. Maybe they could help you. Indonesia suffered greatly during that period, firstly under the brutality of the Dutch and then the Japanese.

No idea about any of this. But I will say that compared to say 3 or 4 years ago, hotel prices in Bali have risen dramatically, so much so that I no longer stay at the places I used to stay because they just aren't worth it. I'm talking about the smaller and medium sized independent local hotels.
