New member seeking advice re retirement in Tbilisi

Applesauce

😀Hi there I am currently residing in Cyprus, but am considering a relocation to Georgia and wanted some advise please

Does anyone know if the U.K state pension,is payable with annual increases (triple lock) in Georgia

Currently,I have my pension paid into my UK bank account and then transfer funds into my Cyprus a/c when needed and receive annual increases

However, I would appreciate if there are any expats who reside in Georgia and could confirm the exact situation please

Thanks in advance😎

Yes, you can continue to receive your UK State Pension while living in Georgia. But no , Georgia is not a country where the UK Government applies annual pension increase

Hi- Thanks for your prompt reply

The GOV UK website basically does not specify Georgia in their list of Countries either, (albeit their guidance is actually dated dated 9th June 2014😅)

"We pay the UK State Pension worldwide. However, you will only get an increase every year if you live in:

the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland"

Furthermore, there have been political rumblings regarding:

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) Nov 2024- — Georgia’s accession to the European Union has been halted, and some of the bloc’s financial support to the South Caucasus country has been frozen after the Georgian authorities adopted a new law that critics feared would curb democratic freedoms, the EU Ambassador in Georgia said Tuesday.

The EU granted Georgia candidate status in December 2023 on condition that it meets the bloc’s recommendations but put its accession on hold and cut financial support earlier this year after the passage of a “foreign influence” law widely seen as a blow to democratic freedoms.

Prime minister Kobakhidze said Thursday, that while the country will pursue its bid to join the EU, “it will not put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028.”

“Additionally, we are rejecting any budgetary grants from the European Union until the end of 2028,” he added.
