Is it difficult to find a banking related job in Shanghai / HK / SP?

MrSnrub

I'm German with a Bachelor's and Master's (soon to be finished) degree in Economics. After finishing my studies I'll probably start an entry position in a banking related field e.g. corporate banking, risk management, or something trading related.

I speak German and English fluently, and Chinese at an intermediary level. I took classes during uni and am continuing to work towards improving it. I'd like to live in a Chinese-speaking place for some time at least, one reason being to experience a different culture and lifestyle and also to improve my Chinese and lastly to gain international experience in my field.

That's why I'm curious if it'd be difficult to find a job in this field finance / banking in a place like Shanghai for me in the future. Other places like Hong Kong or Singapore would also be interesting to me though.

Also if this doesn't work out what would be some other options to stay there for a while? I've read that for HK and Taiwan you could get a working holiday visa for up to 12 months, and I've read about also staying in China for some time to teach a language, they also mentioned German being possible although English is probably much more common.

I'm very curious if anyone has experiences with this and am very thankful for any replies.

Can't comment on all the aspects of your question, but as I have been living and working in HK for the last 5 years I can say it is relatively easy for expats to find jobs in the banking industry here, if they have qualifications in a relevant subject and with the appropriate language skills. As a German-speaker I would have thought it would be quite easy for you to find a job with banks from German-speaking countries such as Deutsche Bank, UBS and Credit Suisse. Also relatively easy to apply for working visas now in HK as the govt is looking to attract talent from overseas.
