Language Schools in China

Cameron Wood

Hi all, just wondered what the situation is on the ground currently in China regarding English Language schools in light of the new legislation that’s been in the news recently. Are the big schools franchises  still up and running, eg English First, Wall Street, etc etc? Any changes or new legislation that’s affecting them?

I am interested to know about this too. I am trying to decide if the English teaching job “well” is starting to dry up here and whether it’s time to repatriate myself. On the other hand, if you’re teaching EFL to adults rather than children, it doesn’t seem as though the new regulations would have any impact at all. And if you teach through an online platform, you can always recruit students from other countries. But for local teachers of young ELLs in China, I really can’t say yet what this will mean.

Sorry to bother, but what does the new legislation say?

Wall Street English just announced bankruptcy.  Things are looking bleak.
