I have been searching and hoping to find something tangible online with no luck. So I'm going to share my story hopefully it helps someone and myself obviously. I accepted a job offer(teaching) in China in 2024, the company sent me a medical history questionnaire and I had to go to a local doctor for some tests. I went to the doctor and everything was good.
Fast forward, I get to China and had to go to the hospital for a medical check. About 3 days later, I get a call from HR saying I need to go back to the medical center. I get there and only to get the shock of my life, my syphillis test was positive😴. I had done the test 4 months prior and it was negative so clearly may partner was one sent as a weapon formed against me😈💩. My test came back as 1:16 which is very high in medical terms. The doctor assured me that it wouldn't affect my application for the work permit and Visa after asking me about my occupation.
Another thing, I was asked to lie about my occupation by the recruitment company but the school was in on it, The occupation on my documents was something else and not a teacher. Anyways the doctor at the center referred me to a disease center.
The doctor at the disease center needed my previous results she assumed I came to China knowing my status, I told her I the test was negative when I tested so I have had no previous treatment. She gave me a breakdown of the costs for treatment and I had to disclose to the company why I was called to go back to the medical center. I was also due for another medical test for the school the following day, the other one was only for the permit and Visa.
As soon as I told the agent who had gone with me to the center as she was responsible for getting me settled in and that included her going with me to the center. She shared the news with HR and bosses etc, we parted ways and about 15 minutes after she told me a decision was made. My contract was terminated with immediate effect. The school also sent me a message about an hour later to confirm if there's anything I left at the school so they could have it sent to me since I am not allowed at the premises anymore.
My rent was paid so shelter wasn't an issue but it was of no use for me to continue staying and paying medical expenses with no job. Mind you I didn't have a lot in my bank account. So I decided to go back home as time was ticking, I had 2 weeks remaining for the 31 day Visa. Fortunately I was paid for the days I worked and I was able to pay for my ticket to fly back home
My titers are now 1:1 but ofcourse the antibodies are positive for life. I have been searching the internet to find a success story with no luck. If you happen to tread this and you or someone you know was able to get a Work Visa and work Permit having been treated for the disease in the past please let me know as I would like to return and fulfill my wish.
