Back to Cambodia, permanently

rithya

Hi all,

I am a Khmer-American who have always had stints between Cambodia & the US since 1999:  NGO, representing a US Company, private equity.

Long story short, I now have a family with an 8-year old girl and a 4-year old boy.  My daughter and I escaped the C19 crisis in LA County in July 2020 and we are are now here permanently.

Cambodia has changed tremendously since my last long-term stay in 2016.  PP is so so different and I seek out my fellow expats to guide me on the new eateries, school, and family life.

I do small business consulting under the SBA in the US so I work early mornings and late at nights.  I have a Master's and will register my business consulting practice in PP soon.  I'd like to obtain contracts with international development banks to develop the private sector and with small businesses that need help with financial statement analysis, forecasting, valuation, etc, things finance-related.  I also write business plans for entrepreneurs.

I look forward to attending social events, networking, and building a good balanced life here.  I am bilingual in Khmer and English; I relearned Khmer while doing an apprenticeship as a Buddhist monk.

Cheers,

Hello Rithya - Nice to get back in Cambodia. I am very glad to hear that. Regarding your mentioned, I am interesting to learn more about your small business as I am also running it (as a service provider) here and wish to extend and have long business cooperation. I hope to get a good response from you.

Dear Rithya,

Welcome back to Phnom Penh.  I am from California and have been living in Phnom Penh since December 2020.

I am and educator, and will start a new job with American University of Phnom Penh next week.

Good Pre-school thru elementary school(s) I would suggest for you ar Harrod's International Academy and Footprints International School.  I worked at Footprints when I arrived last year.  I was the Secondary Principal.

I wish you the best as you relocate here.  There is a good ex-pat community.  I really need to do more with them than I do now.  Many like to eat at La Croisette (a lot of NGO admin/staff seem to like this place-it is my second favorite place) at Riverside on Street 140, Cheers on 136, and Olala (my favorite place) on 136.

I wish you success today and into this New Year!

hi stephen,

thank you for the recommendation on the harrod's.  i had no idea that one existed.

my wife is scouting for homes & schools as i write.  i'll have her look into harrod's also.  what is the annual tuition for harrod's?  (i have a 4-year old and 8-year old)

my wife was fond of zion at TTP.

cheers,

Dear Rithya,

I believe with Harrod International Academy you will have to speak with admissions directly.  They do not divulge tuition/fees on the website.

Wishing you much success in your search for a great school for your children; this is really important.

Best,

Dr. Stephen Ronzano

Hi. Not sure of your food preferences. Do you like American bbq? Over by Russian market is a nice Carolina bbq place. I also really liked cousins burgers in PP. If you happen to get to Aeon Mall, I always liked the food court there and a Khmer friend and I had nice seafood at one place by the mall. This is mall downtown. I enjoyed a number of smaller restaurants by the riverside as well. They may be gone or closed.  I’m not sure. I was last in PP in 2019 and lived there awhile. Mostly used it as a home base with the retirement extension I’d stay to travel as I wanted in Southeast Asia. Wish I could get back. Have retired friends in siem reap and a few friends in PP.  I’m living in Hanoi Vietnam now. Take care and enjoy!

thanks for the recommendations.  i'll seek you out when i travel to Hanoi...that is, whenever the border opens back up.  the last time i was in hanoi was circa 2009.
