Employment and new work practices in Cambodia

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

In diverse sectors, employment in Cambodia has been tremendously affected by the current crisis.
We invite you to share your experience on these changes in the professional world in Cambodia.

Did new work practices emerge over the last few months?

Is working from home becoming the new normal or is it still marginal?

What about recruitment in companies located in Cambodia?

Were there new laws passed regarding work? If so, what were the consequences on the labour market?

Finally, what is your personal experience on that matter and on your own job specifically?

Thank you for your contribution!

I am planning to return back to my job in Phnom Penh soon. I read that the government will waive the insurance and deposit requirements for professionals who work in Cambodia. I have not heard anything official on this yet. Can anyone shed more light on this announcement that I read on Khmer Times a week or so ago.

Hello jungbary.

The change is that foreigners with a job or business can have their employer stand as guarantor for the costs involved.

The employer has to register and get permission, copy of permission letter should be in your possession.

With that you don't have to deposit $3000 on arrival, but instead have an employer's representative meet you at the airport and get you a temporary debit card to pay your expenses.

Also the need to have insurance with minimum $50K coverage is waived.

Not sure when this will start, I have heard September 1 but it could be anything else as well.

Good luck.

Thanks Joe for the update. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don’t think too many Cambodian employers will do that though.
