The best age to move to Mauritius

Cheryl

Hello everybody,

No two people experience expatriation in Mauritius in the same way, depending on their age and personal situation. We would like to know more about you and ask you to share with us when you decided to move to Mauritius.

How old were you when you moved to Mauritius? Did you go alone or with your family?

In your opinion, was it the right time to move there?

Do you find this country welcoming for your age group or for certain categories in particular? Why or why not?

Are there any incentives (financial aid, lower taxes, etc.) and for which category of expats?

In your opinion, is there an ideal age to move to Mauritius?

Thank you for your contribution!

Cheryl,

Dear Cheryl,

good idea to find out the reasons people are coming to Mauritius to live here. My answers are:
-How old were you when you moved to Mauritius? Did you go alone or with your family?
I was 62 when my wife Daniela and I bought a property on the West Coast to live here during European winter.
- In your opinion, was it the right time to move there?
Absolutely...although we experienced 2x island lockdown during our stays. But temperature and the friendly people all around made our life quite easy.
- Do you find this country welcoming for your age group or for certain categories in particular? Why or why not?
As I received Senior Residency for 10 years (and my wife Dependent) very quickly I see, that the country welcomes people of my age.
- Are there any incentives (financial aid, lower taxes, etc.) and for which category of expats?
Of course lower taxes would be welcomed, but as a Senior citizen and only living part-time in Mauritius (up to 6 months every year) they are not relevant.
- In your opinion, is there an ideal age to move to Mauritius?
In my lext life I would move earlier to Mauritius, especially if I'm working as a consultant as during my last years. Internet-connection is fast and stable enough and mobile does its work too quite well. IP-TV and every other service I would need for remote work is on a good level. So yes, I would move to the island already in my 40ies.

Best
Peter

I think it’s nature’s call that brings you to different places.Being in the flow and not thinking much about all other relative aspects is something that brought me to Mauritius. Nature is the best organizer and know the best for you.
