Why is it hard to be hired?

Tyna2019

I moved to Mauritius about 5 months ago and finding a job has been the hardest task.

Can anyone explain why?

I actually have my MAU ID so I wouldn't be paid expat rate.

Despite my previous work experience in other countries, it doesn't seem to hold much weight here and my experience with employers is that they don't like to be straight forward with telling you, you are not right for the job so its weeks of waiting around going back and forth with no positive results.

Hello Tyna2019,

Finding a job is indeed a daunting challenge and even more since Covid-19 has affected the whole market.

From your resume it seems that you are perhaps targetting the education sector...have some patience, schools will re open soon, this week if I'm not wrong. (however it still has an unsure future).

Try to optimize your CV so that it stands out.  Being bilingual (english/french is definitely an asset).

People usually find jobs easily in companies where employee turnover is high, which is not a good indicator (according to me) employees constantly leaving a company shows that the company can not retain employees (conditions might not be so good).

Concerning employers keeping you waiting for weeks (even months from personal experience  :D ) It happens a lot here! It is not "really"  the fault of the employer while indirectly yes... the major problem is poor Human Resource Management skills.

In some companies HR is inexistant or has been appointed someone who is not qualified. In others, HR is only a word (all style no substance). Very hard to find a company with a reliable HR team nowadays even if it does exist, but quite rare.

Anyway, keep on trying, I hope you will find an opportunity soon.
Wish you luck,
Anou
