Decision Time!

Coral74

We currently live in the UK (husband and I) with our 2 small children aged 3.5 and 20 months.

My husband has been given a serious offer to go and work in Maritius for 2 years - he works for one of the larger IT companies!

A couple of years ago the opportunity came up to go to Dubai, but I really didnt fancy the idea, so we stayed in the UK - but am quite tempted by the idea of Mauritus, but should I be?

We are both fairly impulsive - lived in France a few years ago, and my husband would keep his current salary, and his company would pay for house rental and some expenses - so we wouldnt have any financial issues - in fact much less than we have at home in the UK.

My main worry is the children and my lifestyle - I have recently gone back to work and really enjoy the work/family time balance - I dont want to be a full time mum, so would need something to do if we moved.  Is childcare - nurseries, nannies etc easily obtainable?  Could I actually work due to visa issues etc?

Is schooling something to worry about?

Has anyone else taken a similar opportunity and wished they had or hadnt?

I would be so grateful for any comments - good, bad or indifferent to help me make a decision.

Thank you so much, I really need some help with this one.

G'day Coral71

Moving to a new place is always challenging, not knowing how the place is, people mentality, school are good or not..etc..Allow me to comment on that...

Mauritius is a great place to live and work. As for lifestyle it's what you want to make of it. Good income will see you have a good lifestyle and if not so good you can still have a good and relax lifestyle and most importantly you'll be surrounded with expat and this will make you feel at home from Day 1.

As for school there are private and public you just gotta choose which one suits you and your kids. Nanny and childcare are everywhere, again through referral/word of mouth you'll find one you can trust looking after your kids.

As for language, the whole island speaks english and french. Language shouldn't be a problem considering you lived in France before. :-)

As for Visa you probably will need to apply for a separate permit/visa to work. As am not too familiar with the Visa procedure I will let someone else comment on that.

You mentioned your husband works "for one of the larger IT companies". Do you mind me asking what company you referring to?

Whereabouts will you be located in Mauritius once you decide to move?

If you have any more concerns am sure people will help clarify/appease them.

Cheers

Hi,

Welcome to Mauritius, moving to any new country along with a family is always a challenge. Dont worry , you and your family will be fine over here. Most of the Mauritians as well as expats in Mauritus  are very helpful, they will go out of their way to help you and your family  by guiding and assiting you and your family in settling  down.

Cheers!!!
