Can't renew Premium Visa 2025

brandonber101

Hi All,

I wanted to start a new topic as I don't see any recent or updated details regarding Premium Visa renewals.

As most of us are aware, during the last budget speech it was mentioned that COVID-era permit provisions would likely be repealed, including the Premium Visa.

This process is familiar to me as I've been renewing my Premium Visa for the past 4 years.

I recently applied for a renewal on EDB with all required documents and was requested for a in-person visit at Sterling House, PL. (I never had to do this)

During my visit this week (05/08/25) I was told by an official that they will not be renewing my premium visa as the government is starting to phase it out, and suggested the only way would be to look at the other visa options on EDB.

Can anyone please advise if they also recently tried to apply or renew their Premium Visa?

And what your outcome was.

Thanks in advance.

Brandon Bernard

Hello and welcome !

Thank you for brining out this point.

Many of our members are under premium visa. After the budget, we have little update on the premium visa and the situation seems unclear.

I hope we will get some informative feedback on  your thread for the benefit of everyone.

3 of my clients have been called to Sterling House and told Premium Visas WILL NOT be renewed on expiry!

It would be useful to know if they're not renewing 4th and subsequent premium visas and that they will renew up to the 3rd one?

It doesn't seem like they've any immediate plans to eliminate it, or it would have probably been done this year in the Finance Bill.

Maybe they want to force long-term premium visa holders into the tax system here by refusing renewals after a certain period and forcing them onto other tax-paying visas? it would be a way of increasing tax revenue without additional legislation.

It will be interesting to see further replies on this thread.

Hi KC,

Thank you for your reply.

That's just the thing bothering me the most.

I have a MRA TAN and have been paying tax since 2022. I'm waiting for MRA to open the 2025 platform in September/October to complete my personal tax filing for the financial year.

I've even shown the official at Sterling House my filing documents and the payment MRA deducted from my MCB bank account. But still persisted that they won't renew it.

I think I'm one of the few that pay taxes on a premium visa, unless there are more. I really hope more people will reply in this thread and see where we stand.

Perhaps we can start a petition for all the people already paying tax under the premium visa and have someone represent us at the government for a alternative. (one can only hope!)
