Worst year of my life! As well as my biggest regret to move to Mauritius. Building a house got cheated twice. Almost got sued by the same cheating crook. Sending a container here, also got ripped off. I had a puncture wound by an iron bar on my leg. Most of my family here ignore me when they realize I ran out of money. Being called stupid and naive by my friends here.

The only good thing of this year I would say is now I know quite well of the Mauritius law regarding construction. If I never received that mise en demeure, I would never do so much research on the law here.

Regardless of ups & downs, I prefer to be a positive person. So, I hope all of us can go into 2023 with positivity.  If you can see, hear, speak, feel, walk, smell & taste then you are good. Appreciate what you have instead of complaining about what you do not have. Happy new year.

Like every year, the year is coming to an end and everyone is sure to have their own thoughts.

Whether positive or negative events, whether the effects are your fault or not, whether good or bad decisions, health is definitely the top priority.

Still, I think it's okay if the bad events come out and I can learn from them. New doors are always opening and bad things can often turn into positive things.

My year was consistently good and I very much hope that this can be continued. The highlight for 2022 remains the emigration to Mauritius with our two children. So far we are still at the very beginning, but a start must be made.

We are happy to be here and still cannot realize it. The only important thing for us is that we as a family can continue to arrive here and build our future here.

Happy New Year and stay healthy!

This year i was finally able to travel to rodrigues. Main goal to find out of this could be the island where i could life so i stayed for 3 weeks to get a feel of it (working in the morning remotely and kitesurfing in the afternoon). And i must say the nature on the island is amazing... great food and the kitesurf spots unbelievable beautiful. So my final decision is NOT the move here... i know i need to explain.

I already knew it is a small island and i like the fact there are not that many tourist. The amount of places to stay is great and there some really nice restaurants and enough lunch places. But the biggest thing i missed was a proper bar or a couple off them. I like to meet new people have a drink etc. And sure you can do that on the kitesurf spot with the restaurant there, where sometimes something is going on in the evening but for me after a week i was getting a bored...

Don't get me wrong i love the place and for sure i will be back for a holiday and amazing kitesurf. I believe in 10 years time this place will look different so my advice to anyone go there now and check out this hidden gem because i won't stay the way it is now.

Goal for this year find a different tropical place to live. Have a good 2023 all !

Hi. 2022 was rather tough in SA but our highlights included spending a little time in Mauritius and the best of all is that we got our 10 year residency permits as retired non-citizens , our first permit having been issued in 2015 when we bought our house in Flic en Flac.

We love the Island and as SA expats the thing that attracts us most is the non aggressive nature of the Mairitians

The whole world is in a mess but negatvity will get us nowhere so forward and onward!

Best to all!
