Residency through purchase of property

Guest8921

Hello. I would like to find out about acquiring residency permit through purchase of property.

Is it a must to buy one property amounting USD 375,000/- or can two or three properties be bought bringing the total amount to the required $375,000?

For the reason that the OP (Occupancy Permit) is linked by the EDB (Economic Development Board) to the property that you buy for minimum USD 375 000, it has to be only ONE property.

You retain the OP for as long as you own the property; as soon as you sell the property then you and your dependants also lose the OP that is linked to it.

According to the latest changes (July 2022), expats no longer need to buy an appartement, duplex, bungalow or villa in one of the IRS, PDS, IHS, RES, G+2 or SCS (Smart City) schemes - you can now buy Anywhere on the island, from any seller, but it has to be a SINGLE property for at least USD 375 000.

Buying from an individual might relieve you from over-inflated pricing in the expat housing schemes to a certain extent, but on thr other hand those schemes do offer some built-in protection for the buyer that he does not enjoy when buying directly from an individual, so the warning remains: Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware)
