Can you help?

maybechiba

I have been trying very hard to get a job in Kenya.

My degree is in international development and i have a small amount of experience with NGOs.  My problem is every job tends to ask for 6 and 7yrs experience, whilst nobody wants to hire me in Canada because of the same reason.

If they do agree to give me a position,  it's always voluntary, unpaid.  I would, but that costs money.  Furthermore, I have bills to pay.

How can I fulfill my passion for the field I studied?  Can anyone advise me as I'm quite frustrated with all the rejection, but, not ready to give up this dream.

Thanks

Wants to be in Nairobi, today.

Thank you for your response.

I am interested in  so many aspects of the development field.  Working with children, women or in peace and conflict resolution, HIV/Aids.  Alternatively environmental or wildlife conservation.  I am open to all of it.  Basically, non governmental organizations, which would allow me an opportunity to gain experience and advance.

As far as pay.  a decent amount for a single woman living in a clean and safe environment.  I know living in housing complexes and apartments aren't cheap and I'd have to buy a used car etc.  My objective is to live and also pay off my student loans.

I do not have a permit, but research tells me it is possible with a job sponsor.

I am looking forward to hearing from you again.

Have a look at these job sites. Yopu may consider in the short term volunteering. Below are some jobsites that maybe of interest.

devex.com - loads of NGO and UN jobs worldwide. Weekly email update. Requires subscription to see some details but all jobs can be searched without subscription.

kenyanjobs.blogspot.com/ - an excellent site, updated daily. Covers all of East Africa

kenyan-jobs.com/ - by the same people as kenyanjobs.blogspot

brightermonday.com/ - mostly admin type jobs

reed.co.uk/ - not many jobs in this region but you can set up alerts

jobs.guardian.co.uk/  - local jobs with British NGOs come up quite regularly, worth setting up an alert

unjoblist.org/lists/ - a very good site which offers email, facebook and twitter alerts to all UN jobs

careerpointkenya.com/ - similar to kenyanjobs.blogspot, seems to get some of the jobs they miss
