Moving to Accra in Feb

sweetdestiny

Hi Everyone,

I am a American Christian female in love with a Ghanaian Muslim male and he claims to accept my fate 100%.  We plan to get married in March 2011 and he is not demanding that I become a Muslim beforehand.

*  Are the Muslim in Ghana more liberal than Muslims of other countries?

* Or will he except me to change in the future?

Thanks!

I have been living with a muslim guy for 17 years and we have three kids. Christians and muslims don´t have a problem with eachother but both have a problem with other faiths.
What concerns me is whether you will go through an Islamic wedding. As far as I know that would demand you to convert. You can always choose to say the words without meaning them of course.
I am not a muslim and not a Christian but unless the guy and you are strong the family will most probably put a lot of pressure on you and demand that the children are raised as muslims.
You should talk things through. I assume that this is not an Internet crush since I wouldn´t advise anyone to travel here to het married since 99,9 % of such relationships are love scams for sure.
Don´t let religion stop you though but be aware of the fact that issues will be brought up and that you have to discuss it before the marriage and it should be clear about the kids in future.
It all depends on how religious the guy and his family are.
Good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply.  We have talked about it and he is okay with the kids growing up as Christians.  He would like to get married with the government and in a church when we visit my family in the US.

For him, he states nothing will change and he will come to church will me if I want. I will not let it stop me from marrying him if it's God will.

Thanks again!
