Driving In Cairo: An Adventure Not To Be Missed
Driving in Cairo is an experience to be proud of, just as much as seeing the Pyramids or doing the Nile cruise. In fact, those who have driven in Cairo deserve a certificate of advanced motoring that would entitle them to an insurance discount.
If you have driven, or drive in Cairo, please post your experience on my Forum. This could be the start of control bad driving habits
I personally haven't driven but riding in the cars can be just as entertaining. the main issue i have is driving however, wherever and whatever. All driving rules do not apply in this country. drive on the wrong side, while talking on your cellphone/mobile and looking down at the radio while adjusting the station...all while you drive. Also people like to play frogger here but they're the 'frog'. no one cares about anything but reaching their destination. I also haven't seen any traffic lights..maybe one in 6th-october district and it was only one in front of the mall. other than that...where are they? lol. yes it is an adventure...and don't forget about the potholes.
nice tradition I noticed is that whenever 2 cares get involved in an accident, the drivers immediatly get out of their cars, check the damage, and no matter how minimal the damage, they start shouting and may start a little non-harmfull fight, then after few minutes each one take his car and go!! I think this is due to lack of insurance.

do not forgot that every one of them begins to use his mobile phone, shouting loudly, speaking of what happened with the other person on the phone (he does not know who I am) and after that both goes to his way, shouting vowing revenge - or both go to the police station after flowing blood very strange and funny

How are you ( don moe ) hope all is well with you , thanks so much for your nice words What made me to touch this subject is that I personally suffered too much driving my car since I came to Cairo, especially when I want to go to downtown OMG!! that really is TRAGEDY and sometimes you feel that you want to leave the car wherever it is and just disappear from this hell

Yes you are right beside that The use of traffic lights when driving in Cairo is one of Seven Wonders - and if you want to follow these signs in your car people start considering you as if you are someting coming from Mars and mentally retarded - and not only that - see for people that are trying to cross the road without pay car any attention , that is really makes me laughing when i am even just think about it
ROFL! we are from mars or places close enough to it.
thats right no stop lights or even stop signs.. and streets maybe not even have a name. yes i agree.. people just walk in the busy street without even looking.. i guess they think allah will protect them lol
I did drive in the red sea area.. at the time, with my husband and i didnt realize the check point around mountain and the officer at the checkpoint gave me a dirty look like how dare i drive with no seat belt too and then proceeded to give my husband, at the time, a ticket lol and not me. and said dont drive again. lol this was pre-revolution.

so far am good
actually you just came to cairo and you are tired
what about who's driving all the day in the worst streets ever such as the ring road or down town or nasr city or giza
we are hero's to survive while driving,as you must act as if you are blind to see others around you in order to pass or cross by your car by force.
no rules no laws, people crossing from any place, microbus and motorbikes fighting plus taxis........ i guess Schumacher himself will never be normal after all this stress in our streets driving

i agree 100% we are hero's to survive while driving here in cairo, I live in Maadi, and if you want to go to the downtown was forced to go to the Ring Road - do not  tell me about it, I know exactly what the Ring Road is - you know what is the funniest thing sometimes i am getting lost ( lost my way )- i think i am the biggest hero ever, because for me it is not only matter of traffic jam this is very funny i know
heheh yes we are.. :-) that is why I love islamic countries.. because the man is responsible for all the woman does! :-D

I prefer driving in Egypt. At least I'm in control of the car I'm in rather than some crazy taxi driver or microbus driver. But honestly I don't think it's that bad maybe I just got use to it but I feel like peoples driving is a little better now. I've seen my share of stupid drivers in my own country.I don't think driving here is so bad but I HATE the traffic. And I love the ring road it's the fastest way around Cairo.

I'm glad to hear that there are those who prefer driving in Cairo - This is the first time one told me this - I agree with you that it is preferable to drive your car your self - talking about myself, I can not stand - When i have to take a taxi I feel nervous and my heart beats become very fast and it is like watching a Horror movie - In the end, when I feel that my heart will stop shortly i close my eyes Surrender to ةmy fate - and I know that well be one of three options 1 - car crash 2 - the Taxi climb the bridge then falling from above 3 - the Taxi fly directly to dive into the river Nile
I know that he is funny and scary at the same time
