Wedding traditions

Caty in Cairo

Hi all!

My best friend is going to get married this summer - in Germany.
As an expat in Egypt I would like to introduce some egyptian traditions to the guests and the couple.
Do you have any suggestions, nice wedding traditions in Egypt - easy to export ;) ?
On my list already: this sweet red drink but would like to know what it is exactly and what does it mean, Henna tattoo, sugar coated almonds...

I know there are a lot of egyptians in this forum - I count on you!

Thanks

Caty

Hi Caty in Cairo,

First of all congratulations for your best friend's wedding :).

Are you sure its Karkadee for weddings? I thought its a kind of sirup like grenadine... But sure you know better...

Any other suggestions?

If you are talking about an Egyptian traditional Red drink so that's it.

But if you are talking about any other drink what they usually serve in weddings, it is not an Egyptian tradition it is just a sweet sirup "juice".
This sweet sirup is called (Sharbat - Arabic: شربات ) and usually made from Rose, Mango, Pineapple.

you can also find more information about it if you follow this link:

Yes, Sharbat thats the one I meant.

What wedding traditions do you personally like, MO2013?

I think that Henna Tattoo & Sharbat are the most popular and preferred wedding traditions.
