Calling all digital nomads and remote workers: The Philippines is officially joining the global digital nomad movement. A signed on April 24 has launched a pilot program for a new digital nomad visa. The first visas are expected to be available by late June or early July. If you're considering your next remote work destination, here's what you need to know.
This new visa will be multi-entry and renewable, offering remote professionals the opportunity to live and work legally in the Philippines.
Eligibility requirements
The criteria for the Philippines digital nomad visa are largely similar to those of other digital nomad-friendly countries. In general, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Show proof of remote work using digital technology;
- Show proof of sufficient income generated outside the Philippines;
- Show proof of no criminal record;
- Have health insurance valid for the period of the DNV;
- Be a national of a country that offers DNVs to Filipinos and where the Philippines has a Foreign Service Post;
- Not pose a threat to the internal or external security of the Philippines; and
- Not be employed in the Philippines.
