Affordable to own a vehicle in Hungary? How much is auto insurance? by stevewoods
How much is the insurance? What are the government's fees? What are the traffic fines like? I ask because some countries (like Canada) make it almost impossible to drive.

Depends upon your income really, coming from the UK vehicle insurance is incredibly cheap, we had a large 4X4 for a while and that was insured for less than 60,000Huf per annum. There was a local vehicle tax which in our county was about 10,000Huf ... Read More

Unexpected Bill by fidobsa
I today received a bill relating to my Hungary registered car which I bought a couple of months ago. It was generated locally in my village and is for 2 instalments, 3800 Ft for the first half year, 5700 Ft for the second half year. Is this some ...

Yes it is a local road taxActually, szocske is right. It is a local "having a car" tax, not a road tax. The tax and its rate is set by the local government. The roads in Hungary are now maintained by a non-profit corporation, and they can not ... Read More

registering a british car in Hungary by gwiwer2011
Hi was wondering if anyone knows how I go about registering a british car in Hungary. The car has been permenantly exported from uk and if I don't get Hungarian plates on my car I will have the problem of trying to get a tax disc (not very easy) ...

Moreover, the concept of "comprehensive" insurance does not seem to exist in much of Eastern Europe, whereas you can take out UK insurance which is fully valid in all the EU and some other countries. Insurance is also much cheaper in the UK than ... Read More

We are an American family looking for someone to take some outside family pictures in Budapest. Does anyone know someone who does a good job and would be willing to put them on a CD?

I have only just found this forum and stumbled across your thread, I am sure you have now fulfilled your requirements but if you need any help in the future I would be happy to help. I am English by nationality and have lived in Rural Hungary for ... Read More

corned beef by gwiwer2011
There are some food items we just can't seem to find here and miss them a lot. Does anyone know where we can get corned beef, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce and brown sauce please? Thanks

Lee and perrins can be got from an asian stor just to the right of the Grand Market Place, corned beef may be a little tougher but you could give these guys a try, they are not cheap but you can get essentials that you are missing from home. Read More
