I do not endorse any money transfer method, I am listing what I do. I keep it as simple as possible: I trust my wife - send money as required to her account. I trust my friend in Philippines - send money as required into their account. I use ... Read More

Here's my 2 cents' worth of advice: 1. Whatever transfer method you choose, send a small amount first to make sure it arrives safely. Believe it or not I made 2 transfers to Vietnam that never arrived, they eventually bounced back but it ... Read More

Foreign Banks Fleeing Viet Nam by gobot
Article of interest to expats. "Fleeing" is hyperbole, and only offers speculation about why banks are leaving/divesting. Foreign Banks Fleeing Viet Nam

Just for info, you can open an account easily with no proof of address at Timo, by visiting their "Hangout" at D3 in HCM. I don't think it matters what address you give but you do need to bring a passport and 3M visa. You walk out with ... Read More

I also know that a 3 month visa is sufficient at (at least some branches of) BIDV. Maybe you can try VietinBank, BIDV. Maybe it is easier in Saigon. But you do need an address, and I imagine the closer it is to the branch, the better. Having said ... Read More

Only a passport and visa? I have both but the first two banks I visited today showed me the door. First because I didn’t have labor contract and the second because my visa was not longer than 6 months.Yes, I did bring some other documents just ... Read More

If there is no way at the Vietnamese airport, you can buy a return flight to Cambodia. Return at the same day and don't leave the transit zone at the airport in Cambodia (then you don't need a Cambodian visa).Sure you could also go to ... Read More

I did wonder at some stage.... what would happen if you had a flight booked out of Vietnam but you got to the gate late and missed it? (I was very close to this once). Would you be able to just get another VOA downstairs and re-enter on a new 3 ... Read More

Unbelievable to read how some people fret about opening a bank account in Vietnam due to the supposed instability of the banks. If all you're doing is receiving some spending money from abroad and paying a few bills, your risks are rather ... Read More

District for Expats? by VictoriaE
Hi, My boyfriend and I will be moving to Ho Chi Min within the next few weeks, for work. Do you guys have any recommendations on what locations are best for social/expat communities? Thank you kindly, Victoria

Just my 2 cents' worth: I think D2 and D7 are austere and without character, and also are quite far from D1. They have comfortable housing (especially lots of apartments) and are not too expensive (compared to D1/3), and many expats seem to ... Read More

Where to buy a kitchen and have it installed? by jonasp
Hi, I've got a new build flat that's a bit bare and needs a kitchen. Hoping someone on here has been through this before. In places like the UK you could just go down to a B&Q, HomeBase or similar, put together a kitchen with the ...
