Need advice -- completing the Visa process in Mexico by promobabe

Once I've gotten approved for my Temporal Visa at my local consulate, what proof of residency will I have to show in Mexico to complete the process? In my case, I'm staying at a variety of Airbnbs until I find a long term rental. So I will ...

Steve

There are very few difficulties applying for a residence visa. I did see somebody in our local office with a paid facilitator fronting for him. I guess lack of Spanish made it worth it for him, but I also heard his advocate was giving likely ... Read More

How safe is driving through Mexico by Waukeenahwonder

Hello, I will be driving from Reynosa to Colima in about two weeks. I have a 4 door 2005 GMC Serria. I have been hearing many horror stories on the news here in Florida, but we are retiring to Colima, my husbands home. I have been reading up for the ...

Steve

Basically, we took 57 (not 59) down. I don't have a map at hand. You have to do some permutations from Eagle Pass to stay on it, but then it goes all the way down to the "arco del Norte" to get around DF. So, you have business or family in ... Read More

We drove down this year through Eagle Pass Piedras Negras just to avoid Reynosa etc. I used to always drive through Reynosa or Matamoras, and take 180 down through Tampico>Veracruz to the Isthmus. But I've seen some indication that Tamalipus and ... Read More

Car Legalization/Residente Temporal, My Experience by gubabbaboy

My husband and I have been living in a rancho in the state of Guanajuato for three years. This February I received my Residente Temporal card (my husband is Mexican), and we were relieved that our car with its California plates would now be legal ...

Steve

I understand that the rules may have changed recently about cars, but I can confirm that your experience is exactly what has gone on for years in our area of Oaxaca. The laws that define temporary importation rules are under SAT and the Aduana. ... Read More

Have Anything But An FMM Tourist Card? GET YOUR FOREIGN CAR OUT OF MEX by mexbungalows

New Aduana law. Only FMM holders can get a car permit. Older FM-3 now RESIDENTE PERMANENTE permit holders must get their foreign registered car OUT OF MEXICO. NOW. Local aduana offices can issue you a special permit to get the car out of Mexico. ...

Steve

Check with Aduana. That's what I suggested going in. The "law" was just changed. And those gringos with cars here "for many years" have to remove them. Again, check with Aduana. Or ask at a SSP puesto de control. The old FM-3 holders have to get a ... Read More

Banking in Mexico by Yud

Steve

Yep, if you're only paying $5-8 a month in ATM fees, you won't save any money opening a Mexican bank account. It's more trouble and expense - (exception noted in first Bancomer post of this thread) - to move money from the US to Mexican banks. We ... Read More

Great answer above with the Bancomer account. I've got a good impression overall of Bancomer, though I don't care for our local branch in Oaxaca, friends elsewhere prefer them. Luckily our US bank (USAA) reimburses (some) foreign ATM charges, ... Read More
