Visiting and living in Addis abeba by Echo
I will be visiting Addis for an investment opportunity, prob will be staying there for a while. Is anyone can recommend me any nice hotels for a short stay? Thank you all.

I've been told by a couple of doctors in Ethiopia that since we weren't born there we will never "develop" the useful bacteria needed to keep us from getting sick occasionally. Personally, I am sick a lot with diarrhea that I can't explain. I wash ... Read More

Massage?
I would like to recommend Doci, a massage therapist at Boston Day Spa on Bole. I have had a terrible muscle spasm in my shoulder/back and with her expertise I think it is finally getting better. The cost was 200 birr, but so worth it! And the ... Read More

I don't have any ideas about guesthouses except that there are a lot of them. How long will you be here? We have friend that lives in one but he is always worried theft so I won't recommend it. 250 birr should be plenty per day. Some food is ... Read More

AA is a safe place, in my opinion. I walk just about anywhere and have even started taking the blue taxi vans! The weather is gorgeous but the rainy season starts about now and will last until mid Sept. You will need a good, sturdy umbrella ... Read More

Yes, you can buy a washing machine. I would suggest you make friends with a local cab driver. They tend to know where everything is! I can give you our friend's name and number if you would like. He is great, although he does charge 50 Birr an ... Read More

I am not sure about buying wine but I am pretty sure you can get South African wines. And the gin shouldn't be a problem. I don't wear contact lenses since I had laser surgery but I feel certain you can find the solution. Everything just cost so ... Read More

My husband and I are in and out of the country a lot and I have many great suggestions for you. Addis is fine but please get out of the city! Go to Kuriftu Resort and Spa at Debre Zeit to the south about 40k's. Even if for the day. To the ... Read More

I don't have a recommendation for housing but I will tell you that Addis Ababa and Ethiopia as a whole is VERY safe. The people are inherently kind and gentle and would never harm you. With that said, there are plenty of scams or taxi drivers ... Read More

I personally haven't stayed there but I understand from someone that the Jupiter Hotel is nice and reasonable. And it is next to Friendship Shopping Center for your needs. Be very careful of the water and food you eat! It's so easy to become ... Read More

Are you living in Ethiopia? We need you to share your experience of the local customs :) Is it difficult to adjust to the local customs in Ethiopia? Could you please share with us a list of the do's and don't's in Ethiopia? Thanks!

Although Addis Ababa and Ethiopia in general is a very hard place to visit or to live, I agree that the people are kind hearted and generally good. It's so difficult to not give to the beggars but it makes me so mad to see a mother send her little ... Read More

I especially recommend the Sheraton if money is not an issue. The Hilton is a little less and not quite as nice. Don't get me wrong, they are both nice but the Sheraton is primo. These two hotels are the only places to find ATM's. These two ... Read More
