Obtain citizenship through ancestry by pepsitruck

I hope this is not inappropriate to post as this is not simplified naturalization (note from the admin: I've created a new thread), but rather in my case attempting to obtain citizenship through ancestry and a Hungarian passport like some who ...

Pepsitruck: a year from start to finish is probably not far off the mark, as my case seems to have been a bit on the fast side given others' reports. Timeline on my simplified application, which I recounted in the original thread on this ... Read More

Has anyone gone through the simplified naturalization precedure? by Regwo

I understand that knowledge of the Hungarian language is a requirement, but how well must I know Hungarian? I can speak it just under an intermediate level.

Ask the embassy to prepare a certified copy (not cheap), then submit the copy with your application.FYI, I wasn't charged anything for copies made of the couple of documents where I wanted to keep the originals. Consular staff just made copies ... Read More

There is NO firing squad and you'll find the people at the embassy an absolute delight to work with.Agreed. The consular staff are incredibly nice and accommodating, flexible about scheduling appointments, etc. At the beginning of the process, I ... Read More

You have to learn basic intermediate as well as your children. No way around it.That's inaccurate. Minors (under 18) do not need to demonstrate any language competence. You simply add them to your application (and supply any additional ... Read More

My impression now is that the language 'investment" for most people would be at least two years of serious study followed by three months' practical speaking experience in Hungary. ... In any event, I still can't understand why ... Read More

Denied Hungarian Simplified Naturalization by lolo_7877

Hi everyone, I am an American citizen with a late Hungarian great-grandfather. I had my interview for simplified naturalization in a US consulate in June of 2014. My language skills were fine, my papers were sent through. I have continued to ...

Something is very odd about this timetable. I submitted my application in May 2014 and was approved four months later. It's very, very strange that they would sit on your application until this January, particularly since they're (publicly, ... Read More

If you are capable of completing the paperwork and CV, and you have basic conversational skills, I think you will be fine. It's also important to note that this isn't an all-or-nothing, one-shot process. You can simply reapply (and it costs ... Read More

zif: I completed my forms before the appointment, including the CV, and I haven't heard anything about writing the CV on the spot (which would seem to be very time consuming in any case). Yes, name changes are inevitable, and my case had them, ... Read More

OK, for the moment let's take the consular official's explanation at face value. When you submitted your application, she would have had to check a box at the end of the form, certifying either that you did or did not understand and speak ... Read More

Hungarian Simp Nat, when you have been rejected. What's next? by blonder
