Grading system and course structure in an American university

In America, the school year typically starts in September. This system typically consists of a fall semester (usually starting in late August or early September) and a spring semester (starting in January).

Grades assigned by teachers are percentages, which are then converted into a letter from A to F, based on the , which serves as the overall average. Every homework is given a score between A and F. A is the highest score (4.33 points), and F is the lowest (0 points).

Diplomas from an American university

Be aware that there is no diploma equivalence between Europe and the United States, except if it involves an exchange program with a European university. If you start your higher education in the United States, it's recommended to complete the entire degree so it won't be a wasted year.

Once accepted to your chosen American university, you must obtain a For academic programs, you will need an F-1 visa or an M-1 visa for technical or vocational courses. The F-1 visa is for full-time students and remains valid as long as you are enrolled and making adequate progress toward your degree.
