Located in the Caribbean Sea, Aruba is a small island that is under the sovereignty of The Kingdom of the Netherlands. The mostly flat island is famous for its white sandy beaches, and all year round warmth that doesn’t waver much from a pleasant 27°C. The warm temperatures are refreshed by an almost continuous wind from the Atlantic Ocean, and the dry cacti-strewn island rarely sees a day of rain.
Aruba embraces its Dutch culture and celebrates its national holidays throughout the year. The island's cultural and historical backgrounds can be further discovered through visiting one of its several museums. For the expats who love the outdoors, there is plenty to do here: visit the national park, hire a motorcycle or an all-terrain-vehicle, or go kayaking in the warm waters. Animal lovers will enjoy visiting the island's butterfly and ostrich farms.
Oranjestad is the capital city, and as well as being home to some of the island's best beaches, this harbour city offers all the usual city-life attractions, such as restaurants, theatre, nightlife, and cafés. Cruise ships dock in the city, unloading tourists on day-trips. Aruba's economy was once dependent on the production of aloe, but nowadays tourism is the biggest source of income in Aruba, and expats can find many opportunities for business (construction, tourist attractions, etc.) in this booming sector.
